Running Accomplishments:

I started running in September 2007 - 4 months after baby #8 was born.  Since then I have finished two 5Ks, three 10Ks, three half-marathons, and I completed my first Marathon with at time of 4:48- the Phoenix Rock-N-Roll - Jan 2009!  Marathon #2 showed GREAT improvement - the Saint George Marathon 2009 with a time of 4:10 - YEAH!!!!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run more marathons, finish injury-free, go dancing afterwards, and mostly have a LOT of FUN!!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running!!!  Someday I want to be able to consider myself as something other than a beginner.  :D

Personal:

I am happily married, have 8 children, and am madly in love with my awesome husband!!!  Besides running, I love performing on stage, and have recently become re-involved in the theater, after a LONG break to have children.  Last summer I did my first show as a PAID professional actress!  I teach piano and voice lessons, and homeschool my kids.  Life is grand!

Somehow I never heard Ben leave for work, and I ended up sleeping in until 6:40!  The bad thing about that is having to run after the sun comes up - it gets hot fast here in Saint George!  Britnee ran at the beginning with me - again doing 2 minutes of running with 2 minutes of walking.  She was feeling sick after the first two miles, so we stopped at 2.25 miles (28 minutes) and walked 0.75 (13:03 minutes).  Then I ran 1 mile by myself in 7:52, and picked up Haylee and Elijah for another 1.15 miles of walking/running in 2 minute increments.  That took us 11:10 minutes.  Elijah and I finished up with a 0.75 mile run in 6:43.  I logged 6 miles total on my Garmin, but I didn't count the 0.75 mile walk.  :-D

This afternoon Ben and I went to the pool and I swam 72 lengths - which is just over one mile.  I miss getting to swim and bike more regularly.  One more month and I will be finished with the latest production and I will have my evenings back!  Yay!

You are my hero! Eight kids, you homeschool, are involved in theater, teach voice and piano and STILL have time to run--wow! How do you do it? I am a single parent of one child who works full-time and it feels as if I have to struggle to find the time for a six miler. What's your training secret?

Hi Moosegal! Running in Alaska sounds AWESOME after having to run in the heat of Saint George! So you want to know my secret? Honestly, having eight children IS my secret. Having only one child, especially when you are single, is a whole lot harder, because you are the only source of companionship or distraction. My children range in age from 2 - 17, so there is always someone who can help out with someone else. I've taught them to do all the household chores as well as the cooking and babysitting, and they have been raised knowing it was their duty to help out, so it is never a problem for me to leave occasionally to pursue my own interests. It is wonderful to be able to be a mother and still be a PERSON, too! But it took a LOT of years of training and patience to get where I am now, and it for sure wasn't easy. I have a lot of respect for people who have to do it alone. Welcome to the blog! Maybe I'll see you in Moab! :-D
