Running Accomplishments:

I started running in September 2007 - 4 months after baby #8 was born.  Since then I have finished two 5Ks, three 10Ks, three half-marathons, and I completed my first Marathon with at time of 4:48- the Phoenix Rock-N-Roll - Jan 2009!  Marathon #2 showed GREAT improvement - the Saint George Marathon 2009 with a time of 4:10 - YEAH!!!!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run more marathons, finish injury-free, go dancing afterwards, and mostly have a LOT of FUN!!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running!!!  Someday I want to be able to consider myself as something other than a beginner.  :D

Personal:

I am happily married, have 8 children, and am madly in love with my awesome husband!!!  Besides running, I love performing on stage, and have recently become re-involved in the theater, after a LONG break to have children.  Last summer I did my first show as a PAID professional actress!  I teach piano and voice lessons, and homeschool my kids.  Life is grand!

Ben dragged me off to the track this morning.  I didn't want to go, since we stayed up past midnight the night before.  :D  But I know what's good for me - LOL!  I did three miles, with short sprints every time I went down one side of the track.  My Garmin wasn't charged, so I don't know what my time was, but I felt really good about the run.  Afterwards, I did a lot of stretching.  It was a good morning!

Great job!!!! What injury are you battling?

From eightkidmom on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 22:48:44 from 4.254.233.119

Hi Kelli! It's a strained tendon in the arch of my right foot - not sure what the REAL name of it is! It feels slightly tender when I'm just walking around, but it hurts like crazy when I run on it. Even with the brace, it hurts to run. But I tough it out, and it seems to numb after a few miles. I'm hoping it heals before the marathon, but so far, no improvement. :-(

Is the pain in your arch or mostly your heal? Is it plantar fasciitis??? If so, we suffer together! Sorry you are injured, it is frustrating. It really messes with race plans.

It's definately NOT plantar fasciitis - whew! I was pretty nervous about it, so I went in to a podiatrist last week to have it checked out. He gave me the okay to run on it, as long as I wear the brace, but it still hurts like crazy. I have no pain in my heel - it's all in the arch. Being injured is sooo irritating! Sorry about you plantars - that really stinks. Is it something you have to deal with forever, or will it heal?

This is the first time I have ever had a problem, but, from what I hear from everyone it will be a nagging problem. I can run on it when it is all taped up, but then it hurts all day so i am trying to decide if it is worth it!! I was on course to have a fantastic St George marathon and now i can not keep up with anyone. FRUSTRATING!!!!

I so hope you get to feeling better very soon!! And, I have said this before, but WOW on the 8 kids!!! You are so amazing. I can barely handle my 5. AND you are tiny!!! Lucky thing!!!

Well, Kelli...I guess you're going to be stuck in the back with the rest of us slowpokes - LOLOL! :D I really hope you get feeling better, too. And thanks for the kind comments. :D

I just told my husband maybe I should drop out and just cheer him on. Our kids will be with us, so that would be kind of fun. BUT I think it would make me too sad. So, whatever the speed, I will be there running!

I do not know what your times are, but I am sure you are not a slow poke! How are you feeling?

From eightkidmom on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 14:04:09 from 4.254.237.153

Oh Kelli....I just read your last blog post and I feel so bad that you are not doing well. Though, even with your injury, you will probably still outrun me in the marathon, if you're able to make it. My first marathon was a 4:48, but this time I'm hoping to finish under 4:30. So, like I said, slow-poke. :D Heeheehee!

From Kelli on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 20:08:20 from 71.219.82.15

You will do great!!! Finishing a marathon is all that matters, no matter what your time is. And I do not think you are slow, you are faster than the majority of women out there!!!

From eightkidmom on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 10:14:19 from 4.254.239.178

Only slow when compared to some. ;^D On the other hand, better than average ain't bad for an old lady like me - LOL!

You can not possible be old, you look 25!!! You must have started having kids when you were, I dunno, 8? Do you have teenagers yet even?

From eightkidmom on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 13:58:24 from 4.254.235.12

I'm 38...and my oldest is turning 18 in a few weeks. I actually have three...no...almost four teenagers! But thank you for the compliment! I'll attribute that to the fuzzy photograph on my profile - heehee!

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 14:04:36 from 71.219.64.200

You really do look young, there was a picture here before this fuzzy one so it is not that!

My oldest is 16 and, holy cow, I am not ready for teenagers. She is giving us a run for our money. We knew she would be this way when she decided she wanted to be Madonna at the age of 4. Thanks goodness my next child is only 10 and I have a few years (and he is a boy!!!)
