Running Accomplishments:

I started running in September 2007 - 4 months after baby #8 was born.  Since then I have finished two 5Ks, three 10Ks, three half-marathons, and I completed my first Marathon with at time of 4:48- the Phoenix Rock-N-Roll - Jan 2009!  Marathon #2 showed GREAT improvement - the Saint George Marathon 2009 with a time of 4:10 - YEAH!!!!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run more marathons, finish injury-free, go dancing afterwards, and mostly have a LOT of FUN!!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running!!!  Someday I want to be able to consider myself as something other than a beginner.  :D

Personal:

I am happily married, have 8 children, and am madly in love with my awesome husband!!!  Besides running, I love performing on stage, and have recently become re-involved in the theater, after a LONG break to have children.  Last summer I did my first show as a PAID professional actress!  I teach piano and voice lessons, and homeschool my kids.  Life is grand!

Mesquite was fun!  But I ate really badly.  We had Del Taco last night - we had already eaten dinner, but I was starving when we got there, so we went out.  Someone had also brought us cookies, so we ate those, too.  This morning we got up early, ate some granola bars, and ran 10 miles of the Mesquite Marathon route.  There are some pretty steep inclines!!!  We took it nice and slow, finishing in 1:41:19.  I feel like I need to preserve my legs for this weekend's triathlon and next weekend's marathon - plus, I feel like I'm still in recovery from last weekend's half-marathon!  I'm glad we were able to run the "scary" part of the route, though.  Now we know what to expect.  After the run, we ate cookies and McDonald's for breakfast, then drove back to Saint George to the Pizza Hut buffet!  We took the kids to "Jumpin' Jacks" for a few hours, then Ben and I came home to work out.  I ate a cookie, then did my P90X KempoX routine.  Now I am resting up to finish off the evening with my ballet and tap dance classes.  Do you think all that working out will counter-balance all the cookies and fast food?  :-)

You need all of that fast food to keep you going! Tell me more about the course for the marathon... What other races would you compare it to? Steep inclines going up or down or both? I'm pretty nervous for the course.

Hi Bec! Well, I'm not as experienced a marathoner as you are, but I know that the first ten miles or so of this race start on a fairly steep downhill slope. After that, the hills are "rolling," meaning mostly uphill with a little bit of downhill thrown in the mix. The hills were steep, but not of long duration. We had a couple minutes of flat or slightly downhill areas in between the half-mile climbs. Once you enter Mesquite, the last few miles are pretty flat. This will be my third marathon. I'm tempted to try a sub-four, but since I recently knocked 38 minutes off my time and feel like I'm still recovering, I think I may just run for fun! You have some incredible times, and awesome goals! Someday maybe I'll be as cool as you. ;-) Good luck!!!

I just signed up to do the Mesquite Marathon! Look for me! I'll be the handsome fat guy.

Does Del Taco have Taco Tuesdays up in Utah, too?

So Burt...you're coming all the way from Queen Creek? We're actually going to be there for Thanksgiving! Cool. I will look out for you at Mesquite. If you do your four hour marathon, I'll probably be chasing you in to the finish! Ben says he's going to be the unofficial four-hour pacer....

Oh...and we bought 27 tacos for $9 last Tuesday at Del Taco....

You're coming to Queen Creek for Thanksgiving? Well I guess I'll see you there, too. LOL! I love Taco Tuesday.
